Alopecia

Let's talk about alopecia. My youngest son was diagnosed with alopecia areata when he was very young. It can show up in tiny spots and disappear very quickly, or it can show up with a vengeance and be quite devastating. This is a very emotional and vulnerable post because hair loss is not just physical. The emotional impact it has on families is enormous. I felt helpless as a mother, as so many do, (fathers as well) because I'd give anything to help him but I couldn't control the loss. I'd get comments to "just shave his head" because he's a boy. It doesn't work like that. Alopecia causes hair loss so complete that you can't even see the follicles. That means if I shaved his head, it would look similar to a cow pattern or you'd still his "spots". Kiki's Haus is here for youth and young adults also suffering from any form of alopecia. My mind is constantly thinking of new and innovative ways to help and I have an amazing and talented team to help make hair dreams come true as well as ease some stress off the families effected.
